Neonatal ICU Clinical Pharmacist

Houston, Texas | On-site | Direct Hire

The Opportunity

A major pediatric healthcare organization is seeking an experienced  Neonatal ICU Clinical Pharmacist to join its specialized NICU pharmacy team.

This position will provide direct clinical pharmacy services to critically ill neonates and will work closely with physicians, nurses, pharmacy professionals, residents, students, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.

The role requires advanced pediatric or critical care residency training together with meaningful NICU clinical pharmacy experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical pharmacy services to critically ill neonatal patients.
• Support safe, effective, and evidence-based medication therapy within the NICU.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other clinical professionals involved in neonatal care.
• Serve as a clinical pharmacy resource to physicians, nursing staff, pharmacy personnel, residents, students, and peers.
• Educate, mentor, and support pharmacy students, residents, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in clinical pharmacy education and continuing education activities.
• Support orientation and professional development programs.
• Assist with clinical research designed to evaluate clinical and economic outcomes of medications and drug regimens.
• Develop, coordinate, and evaluate medication-use programs and related clinical initiatives.
• Participate in drug utilization evaluations and medication-use performance improvement activities.
• Develop and implement utilization reviews involving high-cost, high-risk, or potentially inappropriate medication use.
• Identify opportunities to improve clinical pharmacy services and patient care processes.
• Support cost-containment initiatives while maintaining appropriate standards of clinical care.
• Promote effective communication and continuity of care between patient care areas, Pharmacy, and other clinical settings.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of educational programs for physicians and nursing staff.
• Support clinical student and pharmacy residency programs.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
• Completion of a PGY2 residency in Pediatrics; candidates with a PGY2 residency in Critical Care may be considered when they also possess current NICU experience.
• Current Texas Pharmacy license.
• Dedicated NICU clinical pharmacy experience or significant NICU-focused experience obtained during PGY2 residency training.
• Demonstrated experience providing direct clinical pharmacy services to critically ill neonates.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary pediatric and neonatal care environment.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to educate, mentor, and support pharmacy professionals and clinical staff.
• Knowledge of pharmacy and hospital information systems and computer-assisted clinical devices.

Clinical Profile

The strongest candidate will have specialized training in pediatric pharmacy together with direct Neonatal Intensive Care Unit experience.

Candidates should be comfortable managing complex medication therapy for critically ill neonates, collaborating closely with neonatal providers, and serving as an advanced clinical pharmacy resource within a highly specialized patient-care environment.

Schedule

• Five 8-hour shifts.
• Day schedule.
• On-call rotation approximately every 8 to 9 weeks.

Work Arrangement

This is an on-site position based in Houston, Texas. Travel is not required.

Work Authorization

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this opportunity.
